I'm a 16 year old girl who is constantly plagued by today's society. I have always been "hefty" and I'm way past hefty now...I'm very overweight. I'm 185lbs and only 4'9, a little short for my age. I want to be skinnier and I was told by my doctor that the South Beach Diet might be very good for me. What I need to know is what I can and can't eat. I need to get the book, but it's kinda hard to, I have no money, and frankly with these types of things, I get no support from my parents. What I need is support. If any of you can let me know what I can and can't eat, and if you dont mind, please e-mail it to mini_midget_dragon@yahoo.com...Thank you so very much.

Welcome to the group. Suppoet is our middle name. Start by going to the South Beach website.....there are some sample menus and recipes. You can also go throught the recipes section of this website. Can you go to the library and check the book out?

No, I cant get to the library...it's 30 minutes driving time away and I have no way to get there. I got a few of the things off of the South Beach Diet website. Thank you.

I have been on different "diets" since i was 12, so i know how hard it must be to get your parents to buy you special foods, even healthy whole foods. Hopefully the doctor talked to them as well, and they can incorporate the healthy low-carb lifestyle into their own meals. (alot of the food is easy to work into regular old american cuisine.) I wasn't really able to reap the benefits of low-carb, or weight loss at all until my mom started doing it when i was 18. Best of luck with South Beach. Hopefully you can make better choices with your school lunches? It would be the first step. Take care! -amanda
