I just feel like crying today it is day 14 of my diet and I am not sure if I have lost any weight, the scale (not surehow accurate it is) says only 1 pound and im not even sure about how my cloths or fitting b/c i have big clothes anyway. My ketostix are always between the the pink and and the purple (even though I have never got the darkest shade)but I thought that was okay. I don't want to get discouraged but I took today off and ate a chinese buffet now I feel worse than ever. Sorry for all this complaining but I have been so optimistic and the scale is not agreeing with me. Hope everyone else is doing fine *( later,Tiffany

Hey Tiff.
Hang tough. You sound like you have my same "syndrome". I have finally come to the conclusion that I should check the scale less frequently. It is sometimes discouraging and often pushes me to cheat. It sounds like that's what happened to you. I think I will just rely on my ketostix just to make sure I'm in ketosis. Maybe I will check every couple of weeks.

I have checked all the foods that I have eaten and It is what I have been eating all the time. So today im going to be real careful. Double check it all. And im not going to get on the scales only once every two weeks.Im not going to give up and I hope you dont either.Im going to lose all this weigh and stay that way. Never again will I do this again. So we will do it all together. Good luck

Hello Tiff,
Don't give up. We're here for you. I know there are ups and downs on this diet. I'm
sure if you hang in there it will happen.
I was up in the middle of the week 2-3 pounds. On friday I went to the store and stocked up
on low salt items. I also decreased my carbs and drank almost a gallon of water everyday.
Yes I was droowning in water but it worked.
This morning I was down 2 pounds I gained and a extra
2 pounds 165/154/130. You can do it. Try posting your menu.(everything you can think
of) mayby there are hidden carbs somewhere.
I know I had to reevaluate my eating. I was
eating so much salt. Is it your TOM.

Hang in there

Thanks so much everyone this support really does make a difference...well I am not giving up I got up this morning and I think im just going to start all over again ...I think you are right flower about hidden carbs and not enough water ( I have not been drinking no where near as much as I should) I didnt know how important it really was.Mary I had been having the same problem with my ketosis ( i may be checking to often about 2 or 3 times a day! It seems like in the morning is when it is the lightest like the 15 and usually around 5 pm it will be to 40 or 80...I wasn't sure if it is normal to jump around like that...and as long as you are at least on the colors, that means you are for sure burning some fat ? Right? well that is certainly comforting if the answer is yes..lol Thanks everyone good luck

I was a little upset this morning why my ketosis strip change so much after a two weeks the same. I went back and looked at some of the things that I had yesterday. Breakfast eggs and bacon. Bacon was cured with some sugar in it. Thats one. Then I had a 11/2c. salad for lunch with zero carb dressing and decaf.tea. Dinner I had some onions and peppers fried with hamburg. The onions were 1/2c and it was 6.9 and peppers were 1/2c. 3.2 so the other days I have been lower then I was on this day. So you do have to keep a close eye on what you do eat.I went to the store and bought bacon with no sugar this time and it will be a while before I have the onions and pepper again. I want to lose the weight so i want to stay as low as I can without getting sick. If anyone wants to go to the site where I found the Free Carb Counter it has lots of foods and there counts . http:www.locarbliving.com/counter.html if you dont get it by the address I just typed in free carb counter and got it. Good luck to all

Mary,
Some people mention getting lower readings or getting kicked out of ketosis around their TOM. Could that be why your stix are showing a lower reading? Just a thought.

Mary last week I was only faint pink on my strip. Today is the only time I have ever been dark. I lowered my carbs and increased my water. I was eating right just like you but I guess sometimes we have to change something.

Mary most of the time I am never above moderate on the sticks. I think it is because of all the water. Also as someone else said even a trace is good because you are losing it might be slow but you are still losing. Good luck and hang in there it well be worth it.

Another thought is this.... are you on any medications? I know when I was on the pill (Orthotricyclene) I had a lot of trouble staying in ketosis. Now that I went off of it, I've been in the dark stage for 3 weeks!

Also, are you guys exercising? You will see a tremendous difference in your ketostix with just 20 minutes of workout per day! I used to just walk in the driveway for about an hour (1 mile,) and I was losing about 2 lbs. per day doing that!!! (Of course this time around I haven't been exercising so it's been slow-going.) I also noticed that if I took an Atkins Dieter's Advantage pill 1 hour before meals or exercise that it greatly helped! It may sound silly, but when I stopped taking that, I still lost, but much slower!

Does anyone ever notice how much I use exclamation points? Wow!

Mary - I'm glad you figured out where the problem was with the bacon, etc. It's so easy to get carbs snuck in that we don't realize.

And remember everyone, that some of us are more resistant to weight loss and have to stay at a much lower carb level than others. I'm a perfect example...I am a permanent inductioner. <---is that a word?
I actually start gaining weight if I go above 18-20g per day!

Ok...this was a long post, I'm signing off now.

Justiff,

Covert Baily, author of the "Fir or Fat" books said the first 12 mins. burn sugar and after that it's fat, so, you're right, it's around there. Tiffany's right about 20 mins. being good enough as I've also read that more than 30 mins. of aerobics will can actually SLOW DOWN metabolism by reducing production of thyroid hormone .

Also, ladies, PLEASE! Stop obsessing about the ketostix! Dr. Atkins recommends to only check in the evening when reading is usually HIGHER. In any case shade depends on several factors, for a "refresher course" (Ketosis FAQ's), please click here: http://www.lowcarb.ca/tips/tips011.html
I once lost very fast on only trace to low. Twice I've been stalled on "moderate"...

Reducing carbs further is not always what's needed to lose, sometimes the opposite is true, too low for some people will also hinder thyroid hormone optimal use. Other times is eliminating certain foods like nuts, dairy or processed foods. Lots of salads and fresh meat, fish or chicken is better than bacon, sausages, etc. Preservatives and foods that lack enzymes tax and pollute the body and a toxic body cannot shed the weight.

Stress is another factor, impossible to lose while under serious or constant stress as cortisol levels rise which suppress fat burning hormones.

And last but not least, WINTER is a very bad time to lose weight, our bodies are "programmed" to slow-down and conserve ("hybernate" ) so if we only manage to maintain we are doing WELL. Those lucky enough to lose anything at all are not too many. I visit other boards and lots of people are stalled or slow, it's not US, IT'S THE SEASON.

With all this said, peace to all and best wishes from another "turtle".
