New here, just have a vent. It used to be I could eat anything, and maintain my weight easily. Now, I cannot. I used to be able to just cut back on calories and lose a few pounds I gained over the holidays, now I cannot. I find that only low carbing now works to do that. I just hope that does not stop working as I will be in deep trouble if it does.

Any how, I went to disney world in the spring, did a lot of walking, and ate as I normally would (not low carbing). I actually gained two pounds of fat, and went back to phase one to get rid of it. Fast forward to fall, went to Disney World again. This time, I come back 4 pounds heavier. The other people in the party, my MIL (who is 60) her sister (who is 62) and my hubby (who is 41) all ate as much or more than I did and none of them gained any weight (of course I am not counting my 5 year old daughter lol). I am MORE active and athletic then all of them put together and "I" am the one who gains weight???? (I measured myself, I gained more than a 1/2 an inch around my waist!!!!) Guess this is payback time for all those years I had a superb metabolism.

I really do not understand this. What the crap is going on here??? Have I become that sensitive to carbs that I will gain weight by looking at them???? sheesh!!!

Stop trying to compare apples to oranges. You have a different body and metabolism than the other people you travelled with, don't expect the same results.

Your body has changed over the years which is why things are ow working differently. Your more active and athletic....could you be building muscle? Don't forget muscle weighs more than fat. Are your clothes fitting diffently? What is the total amount you want to lose? Losing a small amount is much harder than a larger amount? You also said you didn't low carb while at the spring trip. Were the couple of days the only time you weren't low carbing? Were you low carbing before and after the trip?

No I was not low carbing before the trip. Yes my clothes definitely fit different (tighter) when I got back home.

Thanks to the Atkins diet, I got back off three pounds of what I gained. I am staying on it till it's off, then I have to limit myself to like 150 grams of carbs a day or I will slowly gain again if I go above that.

I felt just like you. When I hit forty suddenly I couldn't lose weight and keep it off anymore. Are you taking any prescription medicines.? This was a side effect of my blood pressure medicine and the doctor never mentioned it as he watched me put on fifty pounds in ten years. GRRRRR!

Are you perimenipausal or in menopause? Fat creates estrogen and I believe that's one reason women "of a certain age" get stout.
Your body may be craving estrogen.

It may be you are just like me and can't eat any carbs without gaining weight. What a blessing Atkins has been to me and it will be to you. One warning, though. There's a danger if you keep jumping on and off the diet that your body will quit responding. Don't waste a good thing! Good luck!
