I have a one and a two year old. I gained about 65 lbs with the first pregnancy, and never lost it all before my second baby. I am now done having kids, and want my old body back *I am 30 years old. I have about 30 lbs to loose..... So, why are you all low carbing?? How much are you wanting to loose?

i'm a true sugar addict and my eating habits had gotten way out of control. I was putting on weight so fast it was scary. Finally, I said, "ENOUGH!" I had done Atkins before so I knew it worked, but then I was losing weight for my son's wedding and I slowly put most of the lost weight back on. This time I don't have any particular goal in mind. I plan to keep losing until I'm really comfortable with the way I look.- probably about thirty more pounds. I've lost 25. I feel GREAT! And, no more cravings. That's the best part. Sometimes I forget to eat. Before I was munching on something all the time. Also, I gave up synthetic sweeteners. They gave me cravings, too. Talk about boring drinks! But it's okay. I have had enough of feeding my addiction. No more for me! The peace of no more cravings is priceless!
Great question. Thanks for reading this far.

I'm not way overweight but I have put on 20 pounds in the last seven years. I wore 30-30 pants for decades, now I am 34-30, so I aiming for 30-30 again, don't know how much weight that will involve. And also to reduce health risks. As for low carbs -- I am doing classical Atkins -- I think for most of human history ketosis was the standard way of life and glucosis the abnormality. That said, I also think the American medical community is the worst in the world regarding nutrition and health advice. Following their recommendations for 30 years Americans have the most heart disease, diabetes and obesity in the world. The American medical community, in my opinion, is in deep denial of their pathetic policies.

Great post, Zorba and I agree. We had two tribes of Indians in our area back in the days when it was like the Garden of Eden, i.e. before white people came. They had a settlement which has been extensively researched. Many vegetables were available for them to gather and eat and they did eat them, but deer was their favorite food, by far. They ate mostly meat.
Low fat diets were pushed before there was any scientific research. I have a friend who has been a medical transcriptionist for years. She's transcribed reports of hundred of docs and she said it's remarkable how many of them say that low carb/high fat reduces cholesterol far better than the other. But they'll be slow to admit because there's so much money invested in the status quo. I could go on and on- you hit a nerve with me. I'll stop ranting now, but i'm with you!

Hi! I am also doing low carb to ditch some unwanted pounds I gained from having my daughter and the last vacation I took (disney world) I ended up coming back 4 pounds heavier (don't know how that happened with all the walking we did).
Low carbing is the only way I can lose weight. It used to be I could just simply cut back on calories. That does not work any more.
The hard part will be getting through thanksgiving without overdoing it. I don't want to gain any more!!!!

I wish I could blame my weight on my son. I was 110lbs when I got pregnant with him and 150 when I delivered. I settled down to a comfortable 130, and then went on the Depro shots and anti-depression drugs. My weight jumped up to 190. I looked like peter from the Family guy show. It was horrible. I tried several diets and none of them worked. I was do tied to carbs it was sad. My godfather mentioned Atkins to me and I was like okay what do I have to loose? I lost 60 lbs within 4 months. I looked great and felt great. But, then I was hit by a car (I was walking) and I thought (or rather justified) carbs would help me heal faster. It has become a yo yo diet for me know. I am really trying to get back down to 130 lbs and get into better shape (besides round). lol

i've never been overly overweight but never felt happy or confident with myself
i tried various other diets (which I stringently stuck to) but never really lost any weight
i found that atkins worked and I didn't feel as restricted because I can still enjoy rich foods
i'm now happy with my weight but i know i never want to put the weight back on (because it made me very unhappy) so i have stayed with the atkins plan ever since

I had gastric bypass 5 years ago and this is the best way to make sure I get my protein and maintain my weightloss. I've lost 150 pounds and have managed to keep it all off (give or take a few pounds but nothing major).

Why do I low carb? Because it is the best! I have done it in the past, probably the wrong way. 6 egg omelette with cheese and sausage, anda side of bacon for breakfast, hot wings (non breaded) or steak for lunch and dinner.. I used to drink on my days on (rum).. Bad news. The first time I got sick, or hung over, that was it. The weight came right back and then some. This time, everything is a little more calculated. Chicken, low fat lunch meat, little cheese and eggs, lettuce and my favorite, Atkins Shakes.. I'm down 38 lbs in 45 days, which is a little extreme, but I'll take it. I work 80 hours a week, and the one time a day I ate, it was garbage and a lot of it. I take time for myself, I work out, I do what I have to do to get where I'm going. And that's 199 baby! Even that is extreme for me (6'3 football player build) but there's money involved, and I know it's just for the point of it. Target weight is 219-225 when it's all said and done. I want to shed to 199, and gain lean muscle mass for the rest. It really is a great diet, forget about that, it really is a great way of life. That's what I try and tell my wife when she asks "how much longer do we have to deal with this". My response.. FOREVER. Again, at this point I am a little aggressive in the eating plan, but it's the concept. Use food for what it should be, energy. Write it up! Good luck!
