Can someone PLEASE tell me what's going on?
I started my diet on April 3rd at 139.6 pounds and have remained in ketosis the whole time. I reached 135 pounds on 23rd April, and even though this was really slow weight loss, I was at least happy I was losing. To my HORROR the last two days I've shot up to 137 pounds again! AND I'M STILL IN KETOSIS!
I feel so angry that I've spent nearly a month eating NOTHING but meat & salad (not even jello! NOTHING) for a measly 2 pound loss!

What the hell is going on? Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

(I used to be 125lbs, and that's my goal weight now)

I went through the same thing until I upped my calorie count to at least 1200 per day. I was eating only about 900 calories each day and my weight would not budge. What happened was the my body went into starvation mode.. so I upped my calories and almost immediately lost 2 lbs. I kept my carbs under 20 still though.

Hope this helps,
Kitt

Thanks Kitt!
I'm desperate! I'm up to 138 this morning, which means 24 days of induction for 1.6lbs loss. I'm devastated! [Frown]
I'll try eating more!

Not really...
I know I should, but I used to weigh 185lbs and I got to 125 without any exercise at all!. I regained 15 pounds and now for some reason I'm not losing this time around! [Frown]

Kitt*Tenn you're the BEST!
I increased my food intake (3 large meals a day rather than 2) and added peanuts for extra carbs and I'm back to 135.6!
You rule!

Check your salad dressing for hidden carb ingredients. And maybe analyze the salad fixings... are you adding broccoli or carrots or anything to your salads?

Be sure to drink TONS of water... it always helps flush fat away.

How weird... I'm up to 139 again [Frown] officially havent lost a single pound in a month of dieting.

I dont eat salad dressings. All I eat is a plain piece of grilled meat or fish with either lettuce (with olive oil & vineger) or cabbage (with olive oil and a little lemon) twice or three times a day.

Im in Ketosis, because I check every day, but apparently being in Ketosis doesnt mean you're losing weight according to this article that I read:

Q. "Can you explain to me how it's possible to be in ketosis constantly but not lose any weight this week? I thought that being in ketosis meant I would be burning fat and therefore it would show on the scales."

A. "Ketosis is simply the state of fat metabolism. That fat could come from your stored body fat OR it could come from your daily diet. In the absence of substantial carbohydrartes your body will burn any fat you digest before it touches your body fat. So if you are eating a moderate to high fat diet (even if it is still low carb) then you are going to test positive for ketosis. Thus you are technically "in ketosis" but it's not from using your body's fat. You will find that if you restrict your calories while staying low carb and keeping moderate healthy fats in your diet that you will lose weight. The problem is when you consume too many low-carb calories. If you take in more than you expend you will still fail to lose weight. The only thing ketosis really tells you is that you aren't taking in too many carbs. That's all it's good for. It is not a guide to whether or not you are losing weight."

The thing is how much fat am I consuming for my diet? A few tablespoons of olive oil? Surely thats not TOO much? [Frown]

I don't get it. Atkins worked so well on me before... now i'm gaining. If im gaining weight on under 20 carbs a day I DREAD to think what would happen if I actually ate a piece of bread!

<sigh>

hey there. this is several months late. but are you drinking tons of water?? I used to test with keytone strips several times a day, and in the am, I would be in a small level of ketosis. By afternoon, on days that I didnt force a lot of water, I would be dehydrated and that can make the keytone strips look dark purple, and make you think you are in total keytosis...when really you are just dehydrated.
I suggest checking either first thing in the am, or drink a ton of water, and then re check, you may not be as much in ketosis as you think.

And I don't recall reading what kind of exercise you are doing. Are you building muscle? It weighs more. Plus also remember that you are only trying to lose very little weight compared to most people. That is harder to do.

This was a great thread. I didn't know about the ketosis strip. I wondered why it would turn so dark in the morning when I had had nothing to drink but later in the day it would lighten up (after drinking tons of water). That is a great thing to know. a friend of mine was in the darkest purple for weeks and never lost any weight. Just had headaches all the time. She was just dehydrated!
