Ok, a couple of years ago I did atkins and lost about 40 pounds. Since then I fell off the wagon (went on a cruise and became obsessed with food). In one year I gained 50 pounds! I should also mention that I have hypoglycemia, a lot of the weight gain was due to uncontrollable eating because of being starving between meals.

So, two days ago I restarted Atkins (finally) and I am having trouble figuring out what to eat for snacks. I am afraid that if I don't start getting snacks in I am going to fall back into that bad eating pattern. For some background:

I am allergice to eggs and milk although I can have cheese in small amounts. I am trying to find snacks that I can take on the go. I know that there are low carb bars, but isn't there a more economical solution??

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried sugar free jello? Maybe with a dollop of Cool Whip? Or a handful of nuts? Small can of tuna. Gee, you are definitely at a disadvantage, being allergic to eggs and milk! How about a celery stick with a spoonful of peanut butter? I wish you could eat milk products - the new low carb yogurts are pretty good, and really handy. Good luck! Ann

yup, I have tried all that. sugar-free jello tastes great, but i'm still hungry afterwards. today I did have celery with peanut butter, but for 2 celery sticks with peanut butter there are 210 calories, 12 carbs, and 8 net carbs. Seems kind of high for a snack. Yesterday I did have peanuts for a snack, which was pretty good. I wish I could have the low carb yogurt! I tried it thinking that the milk content might not be high enough to hurt me, but unfortunately it was.

Thanks for trying, if you think of anything else let me know. I'm going to keep looking myself.

12 carbs for a snack is not too bad. If you can have cheese this is a good snack. Purchase some freezer paper and cut some pieces to have at least 2 inches bigger than a slice of cheese. Microwave a piece of cheese (without wrapper) on the shiney side of the freezer paper for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. It will harden up like a chip. I have taken several pieces to the movies with me and bought a nacho cheese sauce with some jalepenos for dipping.
A bran-a-crisp cracker with soft cream cheese or swiss cheese (Laughing cow)is good.
A leftover piece of meat.
A hotdog, dip in mustard.
A dill pickle covered with ham slice smeared with cream cheese, slice, nice finger food
One square 88% choc dipped in PB (For PMS days)
celery and ranch
Flavored decaf coffee with cream
herbal tea
Diet pop
Diet popsicle
Macadami or pistacio nuts
Beef jerky
Finally if you eat enough protien at a meal you shouldn't be needing a snack.
Often when we are thirsty we think we are hungry so make sure and drink lots of water between meals.

I have a feeling you are having sugar cravings.

A square of cream cheese with a walnut dipped in splenda powder I use when I have a sweet craving maybe this will help. The flavour stays in you mouth for ages.
A square of 85% Lindt chocolate cut in four and put in the mouth with a splenda tables is good to.

I also have a couple of mouthfulls of a diet soft drink to curve this craving.

I try not to use many drinks so it goes flat but still has the sweet taste.
Hope thsi helps.

Either cream cheese or brie cheese ...heat pan add butter walnuts and a pack of slenda ..pour sweet buttered walnuts over the cheese...this is a great low carb dessert.

I make low-carb hot chocolate!

2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
4 packets Equal or Splenda
1/2 c cream & 1/2 c water (I guess you could use all cream but that would be a lot of fat! Half & half works too, just higher carb count)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
pinch of salt for taste

Microwave the cream/water for a minute & 30 secs. Slowly stir that into the dry ingredients, then add the vanilla at the end.

It's really good! You could also make espresso and add it to that for a Mocha - may have to tweak the liquid/sweetness. Not sure, I just thought of it. Hahaaha! Let me know if anyone tries a mocha!

What brand of sugar-free jello are you using? I can only find the ones with aspartame and that's no good.

Also, I remember reading I think on the South Beach website that pork rinds are now a no-no but I can't figure out why.
