Hi! I just started what I guess you would call the Atkins diet yesterday - as in I'm trying to stick to 20g of Carbohydrates a day. I checked all over the web to find out how many I should be eating and 20g was the absolute minimum, I saw one site that told me I could eat 200-300g a day (spaghetti heaven for me!).
Perhaps it's just me but I've noticed that all foods that are low in carohydrates seem generally low in calories too and leave mainly natural foods that are bound to be good for us (ie. fresh meat, fish, salad), so how do we know it's the carbs that are the enemy? Last week I was dieting also, but adopting the extremely unhealthy no breakfast, no lunch, eat whatever I like for dinner method, and I lost 8 Ilbs. I exercise an hour a day and have done for a few months, and drink loads of water. But last week I felt a lot better then I do now. I'm just wondering, and I don't wish to offend any die hard low-carb diet fans, is 20g a day really healthy??? Surely we need carbs for energy, especially if like me, you work out often?
There are so many conflicting diets and health advice out there I'm finding it a bit overwhelming. How are we supposed to get it right?

Read the book. Carbs are the enemy only if they are for you . Everyone is different. If you find you get very hungry after a high cab meal, find yourself draggin', haven't been able to lose much (or gains) with low fat diets this MAY BE the one for you. BUT READ THE BOOK FIRST
This is too important a step to leave out

If you need carbs for energy....how are you finding energy to work out on one meal a day in the evening? When I eat 20 grams throughout the day of healthy carbs, I eat a lot more (and more nutritious) food then when I eat "regularly". You still eat a lot of food, just no empty foods. They do a lot more for your body. But, you may be one of the lucky few that can lose weight with exrcise and one meal a day. Every body is different [Smile]
