Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and new on Atkins. I read almost all the previous topics and I think I have found a great place to start my LC diet. People here are so nice and are helping each other. Also, I'm really impressive that so many people have stay on LC diet for months or years. I hope everybody can reach his/her target weight.
Today is my 2nd day on Atkins. I followed all the rules. I feel kind of tired but not hungry. I was on the low fat and low calories diet for 3 months and I lost 22 pounds by counting calories and doing exercises. However, I found out that this method was not so useful to me anymore. Therefore, i decided to try Atkins LC diet.
I have 2 questions and I hope someone can help me. Thank you.
1. If I only want to lose 15 pounds, will Atkins LC diet be helpful to me? I know probably it's a lot harder because i'm not far away from my healthy weight. What can I do to make Atkins LC diet works better?
2. I read the previous topics and found out that lots of people gain their pounds back (or even more pounds) after going back to normal food. Is there anybody who keeps the result forever?
Thank you so much. I wish everybody can lost weight and live healthy. Nice to meet you all. Posts: 2 | From: Seattle | Registered: Feb 2005

You must remember that Atkins is not a quick fix..it is a lifestyle. Yes you will lose the weight that you need..but just like any other plan..once you go back to your old way of eating the weight will come back
Remember since you dont have alot to lose...that you have to go through all 4 phases of Atkins for it to be successful for life.
Keeping the results forever...of course...but it is a whole lifestyle change..just like any other diet plan. The best bet is to purchase or go to the library and read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution!

Thank you noxzema. I'll always remember that a good lifestyle can help control weight.
Btw, i have "The Essential Atkins for Life Kit" and I have read the whole thing. Is the "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" much different from the one that I bought?
Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day.

Hi Sunny, Im new here as well, but began my low carb venture in 2003. I have done exceptionally well with it. I dont rely on scales (weight) AT ALL! Instead inches are whats important. I have maintained since Sept of 2003 , even being 34 wks pregnant. I am not currently low carbing due to pregnancy but do what that I eat only the good carbs. I also try to keep away from white sugar, flour and only whole wheat/grain pastas. Instead of bread I have the low carb wraps and am very pleased overall with my whole venture with Atkins, Im to the stage now where its more my style of low carbing, then the strick Atkins. But, remember no lunch meat of any kind, and also no low carb wraps either. I must add, water is the main key in our success. It truly flushes all those toxins and not only is it good in curbing our appetites, but great for our skin and functioning of our body in whole.
Best of luck and seems you are on the right track.

DubhBas Thanks! This forum seems to have alot of good information, is there a time when more people are on here than not?
Im doing ok, its really hard and takes a strong will to continue maintaining, when all the while I must make sure I get all the right ingredients and calories in my diet while pregnant. But, Atkins truly changed my life, I felt so much better only about 1.5 months into it. Alot of people I find dont succeed on it, only because they get discouraged quickly but like a great friend of mine, I coached her through it daily and motivated her and tried to keep her inspired and then there was that ONE day that I promised her would come along, and then it all made sense. She has lost about 13 lbs so far and MANY inches, she has been following the diet for about one month now, which is only 4 short weeks.
What we must also remember, although fat is not an issue with the ATkins diet, it is much better to not overload our bodies with excessive fats, the bad kinds anyway and make sure we get a good amount of exercise daily or atleast 4 days per week. I used to walk 5 miles a day outside, but have now decided to do the WATP 2 miles now being 8.5 months pregnant, but any amount of exercise is better than none and it greatly enhances our results as well. WATER WATER WATER is another main key. I truly cant stress that enough.
DubhBas, are you low carbing? Have a great day :-)

We tend to show up in waves.....there seems to be a lot of activity over the last couple of days....sometimes I go for quite some time without seeing anything new.
At the moment I am not low carbing. I was for about 6 months but then my husband got sick and with running back and forth to the hospital and work it was difficult. However I did make sure to eat as smart and healthy as I could (not fast food drivethru). The hospital had a cafe that had wonderful turkey sandwiches on whole grain breads and the soups were terrific. I would make some breakfast in the morning and take snacks and such to the hospital for the day. I am in the middle of cleaning out the kitchen so I can go back to LC (I was doing South Beach). I had gotten my glucose levels down as my doctor requested and lost about 25 pounds before I slid (as opposed to fell) off the wagon. That baby of yours is due anyday and I'm sure the excitement is at a fever pitch. Best of luck and let us know how you are doing.....

Ahh, here is that thread you mention SBD in, Im so sorry, Im just getting back in today from yesterdays post to see this one , only after I saw the LC thread. HOpe your hubby is doing ok!! You seem to be strong willed and sure you are succeeding even if not following the diet to a T. Yes, its getting down to the nitty gritty, this is my third and FINAL child lol. I spaced the very far apart, not that this is how Id chosen to have it, but divorce makes these things happen lol. I have a 15 yr old, an 8 yr old and then this one, hence my name here lol. Im scheduled for a dreaded 2nd C-section lol. My first was V and my section was ER C and so this one they are giving me no choice, yet here in lovely South Florida, it is more of a malpractice issue than anything. But for the safety of myself and the babe, Im must suffer the major surgery yet again.
YOu made me laugh with the sliding (not falling) off the wagon, just grab hold tight and pull yourself off that slide. Glucose levels are whats of main importance, and congrats on getting that lowered.

Yes, thank you, hubby is much better, no signs of a fourth recurrance. He had a blood borne bacterial infection which was very scary. All seems to be well and I've decided I'm taking him with me on SB. He eats what I give him anyway so he probably wouldn't even know the difference.
Nah, I'm not strong willed, just stubborn.

OH my, that sounds awfully scary DubhBas! How did he find out about the condition? Is it something that can or will keep reoccuring? Maybe third riddance is the charm.
LOL, I know what you mean about taking him on the diet with you. My hubby is 6'3 and 243 and looks great, but of course his daily multitude of candy bars could be curbed a bit lol.
Ill be back inducting again, not until July probably.
Have a great day! :-)

Actually, I came home to find him slumped over on the couch, burning up with a 104 fever and delirious. Definitely take hubby with you. You need him in extra good shape to help with an extra kid!!!
