I'm not sure what is going on here - I have been doing induction (by the book) for almost five weeks, and have noticed NO change whatsoever. The ketosis strips I am using show that it is working, but the weight just doesn't seem to be shifting!
Any ideas what to do here? My only thoughts are that perhaps I should steer clear of those low-carb candies and aspartame-sweetened softdrinks? Would that help? I'm doing all the right things (drinking at least 2 quarts of water a day; eating at 6 hour or less intervals; holding carbs to >20g/day; not eating nuts; not drinking alcohol).
How can I be in ketosis, and NOT be noticing any effect?

Some of my patients that do not see any weight loss when they are "dieting" regardless of the diet type respond wonderfully to a liver purification protocol. The liver is the largest detoxification organ in the body and is also central to the packaging and unpackaging of fat. Through my clinic we put the patient on a 3-week HealthWise Purification Program that not only detoxes the body but let's the person's bodily mechanisms work the way they were intended.
It may be not an issue of what you eat but what's happening to the food once it's in the body.

Yes, it definitely would help to stay away from those prepackaged foods. Aspartame is bad, maltitol is bad........ketosis is highly overrated.......it is not an indicator which should be used.....how much weight are you trying to lose......and why don't I see any mention of exercise?

Hey Dubhbas, thanks for your reply. You're right - I have steered clear of aspartame and maltitol for the last couple of weeks, and have started to lose weight! Unfortunately, I have not been able to exercise much at all due to having torn my calf muscle a couple of weeks ago. Once it fully heals, I will be back on the exercise bandwagon!
I'm interested in your comments about ketosis - why do you not consider it to be a good indicator?

I never went into ketosis so I started questioning it. There were a couple of posts I came across about it...some people don't have enough ketones to show up for example....try the search feature and see if you can find the posts. I don't want to try and give the info from memory.

baby_carb......you need to give more details.....tell us a typical meal plan.......did you read the Atkins book.....did you discuss the diet with your doctor......people who only have a little to lose such as yourself will find it is much much harder.....exercise is an absolute must......the back pain is something I can't answer.....that's for your doctor

Cougar, sugar free Jello is fine. There is also a recipe in the South Beach book for something called a ricotta creme. I love the mocha one and there is an almond vresion.

I guess I come from the hard-core school of low carbing. No sugar MEANS no sugar. Even in it's various forms, like malitol or it's fake and possibly cancerous form, aspartame. Yuck!
When I first did Atkins, there were NO low-carb luxuries on the market. And thankfully so. Less reason to stray.
I think when you make a REAL DECISION to lose weight, however you choose to do it... you'll do it. And in ANY plan to do so, there is NO chocolate, NO ice cream, no CANDY.. no JUNK!
Low carb, low fat, low cal... either way... just eat REAL food. Nothing pre-packaged or pre-cooked. Nothing with fillers or substitutes or artificial anything.
Try your best to eat lean protein, fresh veggies, clean water...breathe deeply and enjoy life.
Simple is good. Good Luck! Tina
