Today is going to be a tough one. If I can get through it without a terrible cheat, I will be very proud of myself.
I turn 31 today. But instead of celebrating the day, (which is also my boyfriend's birthday,) I am spending it trying on bridesmaids gowns and watching my sister (who is only 25,) try on wedding gowns. Not only am I horrified by how huge I look in those dresses, I am also a bit sad about the fact that at 31 I am still unhitched, yet my young sister is preparing to start her new life.
Last weekend I tried on a size 16 gown, and it was so tight on me I couldn't zip it all the way. Friends try to cheer me up with "those always run small," but it's not working. My sister, a size 6, fits perfectly into a size 6 gown.
Because of last weekend's awakening experience, I went back on an SBD/Atkins hybrid diet. I was 176 last Saturday and today I am 172. Considering that I have had the occasional "bite" of bread or sugar-laden birthday cake, I am down 4 lbs. Not a bad start. But I know this time will be slow... since it is the 7th or 8th time I've gone back on.
Anyway... I will end my rambling and "feeling sorry for myself" here. I await my mother's call to meet them for lunch and dress-hunting.
I'll try to be good today and look at the gowns with this in mind: I will be a size 8 for that wedding. No need to worry about how the gown looks now, as it will be a completely different scenario as we get closer.

Tiffany, this is what we're all here for......to listen, to help, to offer support....... Rambling is completely allowed and "feeling sorry for yourself" is nothing more than what I refer to a "pre-determination", all it does is give me more incentive to do what I know needs to be done. You've had setbacks that couldn't be helped (don't I recall your being very ill not too long ago?). You've done this before, big deal, you slipped up and just picked yourself back up. You know you'll do it, this was just letting off some steam. And, on behalf of everyone here, happy, happy birthday. You are celebrating today, a new start.

It was more of a motivating experience than anything yesterday. My mother, sister, and the lady at the store all said "You need to order the size you fit in NOW, because what if you don't lose the weight?" and I looked at all 3 of them and said "I'll lose the weight. I've done it before." Of course my mother got all synical and said "You weren't this big last time." Which is untrue - I was exactly this big. So when we were leaving, my mother said, "look...just buy the size 16, because I don't think you'll end up losing all the weight you expect. What if you get depressed about it and start eating again?" and I said, "If I get depressed, I'll go to the gym and work through it." And my sister smiled and said "Perfect idea!" but my mother just made a disbelieving face.
I feel so much more compelled now to prove everyone wrong!

You WILL prove everyone wrong!! You've done it before and you can do it again. Now you have a goal date and that will help you stay on track.
This past weekend my sisters and I had a great big party to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday. 140 people were there. There were people there that hadn't seen me since before I started this way of life. There were people there that didn't even know who I was and these people are FAMILY! It was a FANTASTIC feeling to get so many compliments from people I haven't seen in months. I've lost 75 pounds and I know I look great. This is exactly what will happen to you! Stay focused and you will show up at that wedding looking BETTER than your sister. You can do it!!!

What's interesting is that no one in my non-immediate family has seen me since Christmas last year, and in that period of time I gained 50 lbs. So when I lose it and see them this Christmas, they will still think I gained weight. LOL. Even though I'll probably have lost 20 lbs. by then.
Oh well. I'm feeling much better about it today. I believe in myself, and everyone here on the board has been so encouraging!
Isn't is funny... I've been providing this board as support for people since 1999, and it took me this long to reach out for some in return!
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I get in the same situations. Most of my friends are married and im 29 and still single (not even dating at the moment). So I go through my runs of depression.
You can always go back to Atkins induction for a while if you want to lose some inches or weight. I am about to do the same thing myself since ive had to many "cheat days". I think we all have at some point!
One thing I can ask you...do you excersize? I found a new hobby in rollerblading. I find I can motivate myself more to do it if I find a "hobby" to use as exercise!
Best of luck! We all know you can do it! (I only hope i can also!)
