Hi Everyone!

Well, I went grocery shopping today and was THRILLED to find the Atkins baking mix at my store! While I was there I looked at the atkins bars box and saw just what Tiffany was talking about with the "hidden" carbs. The glycerine and another ingredient are not totalled into the carbs section like it is calculated into the total calories because the carbs in it are "not found to have a drastic influence on insulin production". I"m not sure if that's good or not, but I"d really love to know. there are 2 g of carbs in the bars (depending on the type) and they have something like 18 g of carbs that aren't significant. I would think that being Atkins the hidden carbs are not a big deal. After all, he did create them...lol plus, I used them the first time I was on the program and lost 43 lbs in 2 months. I ate them just about every day and had no problems. Just for your info...oh and watch the Carb Solutions bars..some have higher carbs than others...so check those labels!

Heads up .. the Atkins bars do have hidden bad carbs.. I can't understand why.. but some of them do..

Rule of thumb for figuring out hidden carbs..
I know it looks like a pain in the butt.. but its correct..

Every gram of fat has 9 calories. Every gram of protien has 4 calories. Every gram of carbs has 4 calories.

*multiply the fat grams stated on the label by 9 (save total)
*multiply the protien grams by 4 (save total)
*multiply the carb grams by 4 (save total)

Now add these 3 totals together. Then take the total number of Calories stated on the label and subtract the total you figured from above. If they match, then the stated number of carb grams on the label is correct. You can trust it. If there is a remainder, these are hidden carb calories in this product. Take the remainder and divide by 4... this will give you the extra grams of carbs that have been left out of the count.

LOL HappyFiguring..

Thanks Marina!

I have to tell you, I still don't understand it fully, but your explanation and way to figure the "hidden" carbs really is a big help. After all, I don't really care to understand why they are there...just how many of them there are!
