Hello everyone, Im in the middle of my induction and Ive lost 2 lbs this past week. I find myself trying not to eat too high fat so therefore if I add that to the low carb, Im not eating much. Will having too little calories, (or food for that matter) ruin the assets of this diet? Thanks, Dawna

hello dawna.. well.. I'm doing induction myself.. and have done much reading.. and chatting with some people who have been on WAY longer than I have. I know the first 2 weeks we aren't supposed to limit our calorie intake. You're body is going to be in "fasting" mode, as they call it. You aren't taking in enough food.. therefore your metabolism slows down to a crawl.. that is something we can't afford!!.. We are suposed to eat 3 meals a day with snacking in between!!.. I will admit, that eating this LC diet.. leaves me not wanting much for snacking.. SOMETIMES.. but I have been sure to get my 3 meals in.. Could you post a daily menu for us?? so we can take a look at what you are getting in?? that could be helpful!.. Best of Luck To You..

Hi Marina, Well lets see, my day starts with about 4 cups of coffee with Nutrasweet and powdered non dairy creamer. for lunch I have a can of tuna in water mixed with 2 hard boiled eggs and mayo. for supper I have whatecer meat we are having for dinner or if we have something else I have (chicken breast, or a hamburger (without the bun and with cheese). If I feel like snacking I have a few BBQ pork rhines, water all day except for the diet soda at lunch. Thats pretty much my daily intake. Dawna

Oh, oh, oh! Four cups of coffee with non-dairy creamer and Nutrasweet = insulin rush and more! I hate to be a bearer of bad news but that is a definite no-no in this diet. And there is considerable evidence that nutrasweet in a hot drink not accompanied by protein acts like a poison (turns into formaldehyde), so please, for your health's sake ditch the coffee!
The first time I did Atkins back in '94 I didn't know better and got away with one cup like you have yours and still lost weight fast but as the years went by I found that that one cup kept me craving sugar all day long so this time it's out. You'd be way better off eating a protein-rich breakfast, it will give you sustained energy and keep your mind alert, or try taking two capsules of L-tyrosine on an empty stomach. I read a study that said that only the first cup of coffee gives a mental boost, the rest will just raise your adrenaline (stress reaction = fat storage) and will end up making you feel more tired later. So if you can't quit, limit yourself to ONE cup but follow it with an "Atkins" type breakfast.
About fats, Dr. Atkins actually writes in his book, referring to the Induction period: "I want you to be totally, shockingly unafraid of fat during these two weeks. Fat is much more ketosis-inducing than protein." Ketosis eliminates hunger and cravings...
If you haven't read the book, I strongly recommend that you do so you can avoid mistakes that might hinder the results of the diet or even your health. Dr. Atkins' diet has been blamed for a lot of negative things but I'm sure it's because of the way we choose to do it, ignoring a lot of the great recommendations he gives.

Hello again Dawna.. I'll have to agree with LowCarbLatina.. everything she said is the LC truth .. LOL I haven't been able to get coffee totally out of my diet either.. but I chose to drink a half reg/half decaf blend.. and use "Splenda".. as a sweetener.. Its the only thing Dr. Atkins recommends, and actually it doesn't have a bad aftertaste like the rest of the AS. (artificial sweeteners), and the powdered creamer is full of carbs.. if you chose to still drink coffee.. please use a full-fat creamer. When they try to take the fat out, they have to fill it with something, and you can bet its carbs!.. Half & Half, or regular cream would be a smarter choice.. the diet soda should be out too.. it can stall your loss.. Your menu choices look great.. but you should be eating something for breakfast.. gotta keep that metabolism working!!!!!
