I lived on cheese and beef hot dogs for weeks. Turkey and Chicken. Pork ribs and shell steaks...it's the meat that gets ketosis going. The pure protein and fats.

I've lived as a vegetarian/vegan for some time now ... I'm looking for innovative ways to get keep my ketosis level high, but my sat. fats down low.

I've lost my taste for meat and cheese and eggs.

Avacados are good, yes? Eventually, anyway. Let's start a new thread about good low-glyc. veggies!

Cheers!
Tina

What to do?

I hear avocados are a very good option for vegetarians... though I've never tried one in my life so I can't say if it's a viable option. [Smile]

Do you use tofu or other soy products? I know a lot of people are allergic to soy, but for those who aren't, it's a very high-protein/low-fat way to stay in ketosis and get creative.

I can't imagine losing my taste for cheese. Meats and eggs, yes... but cheese is my life. [Smile]

I agree a thread should be started about this stuff. I'm not a vegetarian, and I'm pregnant, so I can't offer any good advice. But certainly keep this thread going... it's a great idea!

I'm doing the low carb vegetarian style this time around too. I have been using fake meats, and tvp and tofu,. Nuts and seeds, peanut butter, soy milk and cheeses. Low sugar fruits and berries and lots of veggies. So far so good. Lots of good luck to you and I know you will be able to be successful. Lets make this year the most successful yet. Judy H

Judy, I'm in the exact same spot that you are. I did lowcarbing in 2002 as a non-vegetarian, reached goal, and then went off to try and do more of a low GI type of eating plan and during that time became a vegetarian. Now I'm back on the lowcarb wagon, not because of weight gain (though I'm probably up about 10-15 pounds from my goal weight) but more to help me out of the diet/binge mode I've been in because of personal reasons for a few months now (since lowcarbing was the only thing that curved my binges). I'm only on day 2 of lowcarbing the vegetarian way, but already I'm starting to remember how much I enjoyed lowcarbing and how much I don't miss the carbs.

I eat lots of good veggie protein, some cheese and dairy, some nuts/seeds, healthy fats, and lots of veggies. I find if I don't count carbs in veggies I eat much more of the healthy green ones and I still get all the benefits of lowcarbing. I also eat sparingly berries and yogurt.

I'm hoping to stabalize my eating and my weight and then move back to a low GI type of diet, although I'm enjoying this so much I just might hold off on adding grains and concentrate more on adding other carbs like fruit, yogurt, and beans [Big Grin] .
