This is my second go at this (South Beach Diet). I wanted to lose some weight, a lot of weight, and also needed to get my blood sugar level down a bit. The first time was two years ago and I did very well. I had lost about 30 pounds in 3 months. This website was a very big help. Then my husband got very, very ill and trying to follow SBD while spending days and days in the hospital was impossible. I couldn't stick with it but did try and eat better, healthier foods. Reached the point where I needed to start again to do this because I just wasn't feeling right.
So, I just finished my second week of induction of the SBD yesterday. Haven't got any idea how much weight I've lost. The morning I started (June 4) I went to get on the scale and found out it was broken. In any event, some of my pants feel looser and I realized I have to keep pulling them up a little.
Breakfast has always been a ham and cheese omlette, which I never ever seem to tire of, and coffee which I will never ever give up. Lunch is usually a salad from a place across the street consisting of romaine, grilled chicken, toasted walnuts, avacado, a couple of olives, roasted red peppers, a hard boiled egg and some real bacon bits. They make a roasted shallot vinegrette to die for.
Dinner is a salad and a steak, chicken, meatloaf or such, whatever strikes me in the car on the drive home along with some broccoli, string beans, mashed califlower.....all of which I buy in bulk, frozen from the local megamart.
I scare people at work with how much water I drink. We have a couple of people who are constantly shutting the air conditioning off because they are cold rather than putting on a sweater over the sleeveless or spaghetting strap tops they are wearing. It gets very dry and stagnant in the office so drinking a LOT of water isn't a problem, I tend to average almost a gallon a day. Unfortunatly I have to bring water from home and if I happen to run out during the day..........
Just picked up a multivitamin from a local vitamin shop which has no yeast, corn, gluten, sugar or any of the things I'm not supposed to have.
Exercise is where I run into a problem. I drive an hour and a half to work, have to sit at a computer all day, then drive an hour and a half home. Getting in some exercise has been more than tough. I've taken making two or three trips up to the bedroom with the clean laundry rather than taking it all up at one time. Now that it's nice out, maybe some gardening will be good. I wish my husband would let me mow the lawn!!!
I'm going to just keep going because it's the right thing to do.

Still haven't bothered to fix the scale or get a new one and I don't really think I'm even going to bother. The main thing is I'm feeling better than I was a month ago.
Started adding back some things, always loved the low carb tortilla wraps but they have been hard to find. Ran across them finally at the place I listed in the retail directory. Love this store, they are oh so helpful and nice. They were telling me when I was in there last week that they used to have 5 distributors for low carb items, now they only have one. The other 4 are no longer doing low carb. Picked up a box of the baking mix to try. It will be nice to have dumplings with my beef stew and chicken soup instead of potatoes and egg noodles.
Next thing to add in is some fruit. Picked up some strawberries to start. Don't like blueberries or raspberries (actually it's the seeds I don't like). Before I started this the first time I got hooked on grilled peaches. Just cut them in half and throw the on the BBQ. I don't know what grilling does to them but they do get sweeter. Anybody ever find or hear of a website that has something about what cooking does to change the numbers we keep track of? There has to be someplace to look up the nutritional info of food before and after cooking? I would think that the cooking process would change at least some of the characteristics.

OK, it never ends.....broke the leg (left one so at least I can drive). This is going to be so hard to do now. Maybe I should stop until I'm healed and start again. If I can't get what I need through the drive thru Dairy Barn and what's in my freezer, I can't get it (husband is a lousy shopper).

That's so sweet of you to say. I'm going to wait (only two more weeks - found out it's not broken but is bad enough for a temporary cast).
Once I can maneuver better and I'm not crazed from working on the house (company coming to stay with a 16-month old and the guest room doesn't exist at the moment), working at work (it's been a real trip commuting) and a bunch of other stuff I am going to try again. Was able to find my bicycle just before this happened and got it all ready to use. Love riding around my neighborhood by bike (I'm on the water) put a basket on the front so I can carry a good amount of water, camera and good snacks. My head hasn't been in this since I tried this second time.
