Hello Evette!

While I haven't been "offically" diagnosed, I do believe I am hypoglycemic. I just have too many symptoms not to be.

I've found the easiest plan for me was Atkins, but I'm one of those "all or nothing" kind of people too. I need rigid guidelines and Atkins has the structure I need. The initial phase, induction, restricted the carb intake enough to help quickly stabilize my blood sugar. Then I slowly added back in other approved foods and monitored how I felt as I did so. You can quickly find out what foods will raise your insulin enough to bother you. Keep in mind that Atkins is not really as tough as some people claim it to be. It's really just a matter of adjusting to something different.

What I would suggest is to read up on the most popular plans and decide for yourself which one is right. Make sure you chose a plan you can envision yourself doing for the rest of your life. Because the only way you are going to lose those 50 lbs, and keep them off permanently, is to live a low-carb lifestyle - for the rest of your life. Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as an investment in your health.

Research the plan you are most interested in and then get started. Feel free to post any questions you may have about different plans and we'll do our best to help.

I personally didn't have any luck with Atkins but found South Beach did work. Amy is right....read about all the plans and then decide which is right for you. We'll answer all your questions to help you along.

I was just recently diagnosed with hypoglycemia also. My doctor recommended Atkins.

I'm totally new to Atkins and I've just started today (after spending a week reading the book). I'm hoping this is something I can live with as I've felt bad eating carbs my whole life. My doctor says I will feel 100x's different after getting started on the plan.

Good luck to you!! I hope it works out for both of us! [Smile]

I am hypoglycemic also and can vouch that low-carb definately helped me tremendously! Because my sugar wasn't spiking at all, I didn't experience the "crashes" of low-blood-sugar anymore. The high amounts of protein kept everything in balance for me. Good luck!
