Greetings all. My name is Jim and I live in the Northeast. The wife and I started the SBD around the second week in July. We approached this diet as a lifestyle change instead of a diet that one would abandon once weight goals are reached and I think that has made a world of difference. I've lost 35 pounds in those few weeks and the wife has lost just over 30 pounds. We love eating low carb and couldn't be more satisfied with our progress. I started using the SBD religiously and then have migrated from that to counting carbs and introducing them to fit our lifestyle and the weight loss is still impressive. We started the diet because the wife's doctor told her she was borderline diabetic. That scared us, thus SBD. Last week she went back and her Cholesterol was back in the normal range, blood pressure was down and sugar levels reduced and normal. The doctor thought it was sort of a miracle. It was; a natural one. I'm looking forward to learning more...and I have a lot to learn. Jim

Congratulations and welcome to both of you. I also went on SBD because I was just about to become borderline diabetic. Diabetes runs in the family and while I had a count of 112, after three months I had lost 11 pounds and was down to a count of 91. My doctor was thrilled. Now I just have to contend with slight hypothyroid problem.

You'll find we're a fun and friendly group of people here and we are glad you have joined us.

I just joined the forum. I have been low carbing for years and know the health benefits as well. I backslid due to eating too many of the new products on the market, but have gotten back on track and after 5 days am feeling great. Real foods are where it is at.

Welcome wendita38. I couldn't agree more....I made the same mistake. I've stopped with the low card products except for things like the low carb whole wheat bread or tortillas. Been doing real foods again for a couple of days and just started realizing I wasn't feeling quite right.

Welcome Wendita38. We started our low carb routine with a another couple. They found all the low-carb processed foods after their phase 1 was finished and indulged in them heartily. They found they stopped losing weight and we stayed with natural foods, watched the carb content and we're still losing and they are stuck. Now they have to go back to phase 1 and start over....I'm a real believer that there is no magic processed food out there....as you say, real food is still the best. Regards
Jim

Thanks Jim. Too bad it has taken me years to learn that. It was so exciting at first to have all the new stuff, but now it is more exciting to feel great and also lose weight again.

Hi DubhBas,

Even the breads and tortillas get me into trouble. I have always been a little gluten sensitive and so I get stomach problems when I eat these foods a lot. I love them though. Too much. Low carb tortillas and breads are a weakness for me. Have you tried the Tofuyan low carb pita's??? They are great. Not sure if you can get them where you live. I really need to stay away from them, but they are awesome!!!

I'll have to take a look around for them. I seem to have developed the "bad" habit of only remembering to read the labels on the back of the package. Unfortunately, this has caused me to say "I had these (blank) and they were great" but I never looked at the name on the front!
